Patriots' AJ Brown dream may be dead as Eagles reject best offer they'll get

It's no fun doing business with Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.

The New England Patriots, after struggling to add wide receiver talent over the years and ultimately whiffing on their Stefon Diggs signing, have been hot in the market for Eagles star wide receiver AJ Brown, who is said to be available via trade.

Brown and Mike Vrabel's relationship dates back to their time with the Tennessee Titans. The Patriots have both the need for a top-flight WR1 and the draft capital and cap space to acquire him, so a deal makes sense for both sides. But Roseman is being too picky.

According to Radio Host Anthony Gargano, Patriots general manager Eliot Wolf offered Philadelphia a first and a third-round pick for Brown, which is the best offer that the Eagles will realistically get. But Brown isn't on a jet to Foxborough, so apparently, no dice on that deal.

Patriots were reportedly rejected on fair offer for Eagles' AJ Brown

If Roseman is rejecting a first and third-rounder for a 29-year-old receiver coming off his lowest production since 2021, then the dream may be dead. Brown would have a ton of value in New England as it chases a Super Bowl, but overspending is how you find yourself outside a contending window.

It is unlikely that another team is going to offer more premier draft capital than what the Patriots reportedly have, so if nothing changes, Brown will be an Eagle next year, and perhaps New England may have to revisit this idea at the trade deadline.

Maybe, the Patriots' resources are better allocated toward the draft or free agency, as players like Alec Pierce, who has been linked to New England, Mike Evans and Wan'Dale Robinson are all set to be available. In terms of value, those additions might make more sense.

Of course, Brown is undoubtedly the best player rumored to be available, but how available really is he if Roseman won't accept a first and third-rounder? Why even ask around if you're not going to budge on what is an incredibly fair deal, given the circumstances?

Roseman is known to be incredible at his job, and the Eagles have a very recent Super Bowl ring to show for it. But the Brown situation has been falling apart in Philadelphia for a long time, and it is unclear what the Eagles are exactly holding onto.

Patriots fans may have to stop envisioning Drake Maye throwing deep balls to Brown next season as the team chases a Lombardi Trophy. Is adding a great wideout still in the cards for New England? Absolutely. But right now, it seems like the price for Brown is too steep.
